Thawani Technologies Company signs cooperation agreement to provide smart electronic payment services at SQU

MUSCAT: In line with its plan to include higher education institutions in its platform, Thawani Technologies Company has signed a cooperation agreement to provide smart electronic payment services at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), the national university and primary research institution of Oman.

Thawani payment services at SQU can be used to pay tuition and hostel fees as well as used at Student Services Centre, restaurants and coffee shops and other facilities on campus.

Commenting on the agreement, Majid bin Fayil Al Amri, Founder and CEO of Thawani said, “We are delighted to provide smart payment solutions at SQU. We aim to cooperate with all higher education institutions in the Sultanate and offer benefit and ease of use to students and their parents. Students, parents and staff at SQU will experience benefit from our exceptional payment platform which offers innovative products and services. We want to encourage a culture of cashless transactions in Oman. The e-payment solution offers a safe, simple, and highly secure payment method as an alternative to cash, credit, and debit cards.”

His Excellence Dr. Ali AL Bemani Vice-chancellor of Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) said, “We are always supportive of all measures that help students overcome obstacles and enrich their campus life. Smart, secure and easy payment solutions will facilitate and organise the collection of payments at many units and service centres in the university. We appreciate that Thawani platform offers one of the simplest and most innovative e-payment solutions in the Sultanate.”

Users can download the Thawani app from the Apple Store or Google Play to manage their finances. All ‘Thawani’ app users are assured of keeping their banking data completely private. Users will not have to share any card, bank, or account information at any point to complete transactions. The application is in line with the Central Bank of Oman’s regulations and maintains the international PCI DSS standards for data integrity and secure encryption.

Everything from its set-up and creating an account to using the app on a day-to-day basis has been designed around simplicity. The aim of Thawani app is to introduce a new alternative payment method that would not only be really simple to use but one that would always work, help people budget better, while adhering to the highest standards of security, both for customers and merchants alike.

The Thawani platform was founded on March 2016, marking the beginning of a new era of easy and secure e-payment solutions in the Sultanate of Oman. The pioneer e-payment platform has seen steady growth during the last few months and gained the trust of both users and merchants in Oman.
